Bruce is an expert in facial reconstruction for children and adults in the NHS and developing world with facial disfigurement, often using his considerable skill for voluntary work. He also brings this expertise to his private cosmetic facial practice. Specialising in nose and ear reconstruction at his clinic in Solihull, he uses computer-aided 3D technology to create a visual computer image of his patient's faces to help plan and discuss surgery options.

LANGUAGES

I am a consultant plastic surgeon at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust, Queen Elizabeth. I provide general plastic surgery practice as well as further specialising in the treatment of children, young people and adults with facial deformities as a result of cleft lip and palate or other birth defects. My research interests focus on the cause and treatment of cleft lip and palate and facial nerve reconstruction and I hold an honorary senior lectureship at the University of Birmingham in order to supervise some of these research projects. I qualified in 1980 from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, London and then completed 6 years of general and plastic surgery training. I have a strong commitment to improving health in less developed countries and following the completion of my training, I moved to Nepal where I lived and worked for 9 years. Whilst in Nepal, I set up a department for plastic and reconstructive surgery for the Government of Nepal in Pokhara. On returning to the UK I completed a further 3 years of higher plastic surgery training, passed the Intercollegiate College exam in Plastic Surgery and gained a Master of Surgery degree for my research thesis on the facial nerve. I visit Nepal regularly in my role as lead educator for the postgraduate plastic surgery programme at Kathmandu University. I am married and spend much of my free time with my family. I enjoy multicultural situations and continue to have many links with colleagues and friends in developing countries.
