Bio:

I am an experienced Consultant Cognitive behavioural Psychotherapist and the Clinical Director of Working Minds UK, a specialist provider of occupational psychological therapy services.

I completed my postgraduate training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) at the University of Manchester (1994) and went on to graduate with an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice from the University of Staffordshire (2004).

I have extensive experience working on a one-to-one basis with clients who have experienced a range of distressing emotions varying from general anxiety to clinical and pronounced depression. I have helped individuals and organisations come to grips with the complex individual and environmental factors that mediate wellness and performance in the workplace. I believe in liason with occupational health clinicians if appropriate and, with the permission of my clients, provide the necessary reports. You can rest assured my work is always based on the best available research on managing human emotions, thoughts and behaviours.

I am currently the lead Consultant Psychotherapist (CBT) to Jaguar Land Rover Ltd in the West Midlands as well as West Midlands Fire Service and I led the psychological therapy team at West Midlands Police Force for 7 years. I am also Consultant to Western Power and ALCOA Ltd (UK) and held the position of Consultant Psychotherapist at Woodbourne Priory Hospital, Birmingham from 2001 – 2007. As the senior psychological therapist to global and national businesses, I am able to provide structured business coaching exploring behaviours and emotions within the workplace that may be causing emotional pressures.

I am committed to both under-graduate and post-graduate clinical teaching, as demonstrated by my position as an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Birmingham and Brunel University. My research and publications have been included in professional journals in the UK and Europe and I have lectured at Conferences around the world, namely the World Congress in cognitive behavioural science in Japan, 2005. However, despite my academic pursuits, my main interest is providing excellent direct patient care.

I hold accreditation with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy (BABCP) and United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) - both of which are distinguished by their rigorous processes to ensure the knowledge and skills of their affiliates remain advanced. Moreover, I am an Affiliate Member of the Society of Occupational Medicine and Senior Associate to the Royal Society of Medicine.

"I would definitely recommend Alan to other patients"

"I only have good things to say about Alan. He has an uncanny skill of putting my mind at ease, while ensuring our discussion remains focused and constructive. He is always very respectful and attentive, while not being too pushy. He has never made me feel uncomfortable or anxious, which is quite an achievement - given that those two things form a part of my condition. He definitely helped me a great deal and I'm glad I have had such great support in reorganising my mindset. I would definitely recommend Alan to other patients."
