Medstars Connect is a virtual consultation app, designed by experienced doctors to make remote consultations secure, intuitive and hassle-free (with an emphasis on being incredibly user friendly!)
While we know many other platforms have released stopgap video consultation tools, hurriedly adapted for healthcare in the wake of a global pandemic, our live chat and video appointments have been developed specifically with health professionals and patients in mind - like everything we do here at Medstars.
As doctors, we know in many cases face-to-face will always be best. But as we all adapt to a cultural shift towards remote healthcare, there are new opportunities for virtual screenings, follow-ups and checking in with patients post-procedure. Not to mention improving accessibility for patients who struggle to travel or live abroad.
So, for the times when face-to-face isn’t possible (or for when remote consultations will work just as well) Medstars Connect will help you to deliver first class, personalised care for your patients.

During this process, the importance of hospital and clinic integration has been at the forefront of our minds. Because of this, the app integrates into existing hospital scheduling systems, EPR and clinical pathways.
Our aim is to minimise the additional admin associated with the widespread use of remote consultations, and ensure important clinical information is securely captured and stored.

As a patient, you should only download the app if you've been specifically invited by a health professional or their clinic or hospital. After you've been asked to download the app, you just need to create an account by entering your phone number. You’ll then be asked to enter your SMS verification code and you’re good to go!
You can download Medstars Connect to any smartphone by visiting the App Store or Google Play. You will see two apps listed. Patients should download ‘Medstars Connect Patient’ (if downloading via the App Store) or 'Medstars Connect' (if downloading via Google Play). Only health professionals should download 'Medstars Connect Doctor'. The easiest way to download the app is to use the links available on this page.
A remote video consultation is the same as a traditional face-to-face appointment but it will be performed remotely - via video call or live chat. You’ll still receive the same level of in depth care and your health practitioner will only invite you to an appointment via video call or live chat if it’s appropriate.
The only price you pay as a patient will be your chosen health practitioner’s consulting fees. You will not be charged to use Medstars Connect as a tool to facilitate your appointment. You can view your doctor’s prices before confirming your appointment and you will be required to pay for your appointment in advance via the app.
You will receive the invitation as an SMS to your phone. When you click the link, your phone will automatically open up the relevant app store for your phone. The download process is the same as any other app in that you’ll need to give your permission to install the app. Once installed, the app will take you through a short registration process.
Easily! All you need to do is set up your payment method by entering your card details under ‘My Account’. We advise doing this as soon as you’ve created an account. After you’ve accepted your health practitioner’s invitation to connect, you’ll need to accept their appointment request. Once you’ve accepted both you’ll be asked to pay your health practitioner’s fees and it’s a whole lot easier if you’ve already got everything set up.
Medstars Connect live chat is a private and secure space for you to access your health practitioner when a video call may not be required. Think of it as a dedicated alternative to text messaging or WhatsApp. Let’s say you need to check in to let your health practitioner know how you’ve been getting on with your treatment, or how you’re recovering from an operation. Rather than setting up a video call, you can schedule in some time to talk via live chat. The appointment will still be scheduled in advance, and you will receive reminders to make sure you log in on time. You can then message back and forth and exchange files and photos. Your chat history will be saved for you to refer to in the future and this is where you can find your post-appointment notes. If you need to arrange follow-ups or contact your health practitioner after your appointment has ended, you can visit your live chat history with them and ping over a message. Your health practitioner will be notified and can then respond accordingly.
If you join a scheduled video call and your health practitioner isn’t quite ready yet, you’ll enter a virtual waiting room (just like in a real clinic!). You’ll see a holding screen appear on your device, letting you know that you’ve entered the waiting room. The doctor will receive a notification to say you are there. Once your health practitioner begins your scheduled video call, you’ll automatically leave the waiting room and enter the video consultation.
You can either accept or reject an appointment offered to you from a clinician using the Medstars Connect app. When you confirm an appointment time with your clinician your clinician will be informed. If you reject an appointment time they will also be informed and then they will send you an alternative time for you to accept or decline. If you wish to discuss your appointment time you should contact your clinician, clinic or hospital directly.
Please contact your clinician, clinic or hospital directly to cancel an appointment you have already confirmed. If you have paid any medical fees the refund arrangements are between you and the doctor or clinic and can be refunded directly to you outside the app.
You should contact your clinician if you wish to ask for a refund. They will be able to refund you directly and not via the Medstars Connect app.

We welcome any registered health professional to download Medstars Connect Doctor! Once you’ve entered your email and chosen password, we’ll ask you to enter your medical body and registration number. Once we’ve ran a couple of checks, we’ll accept your request and you’re good to go!

Your initial virtual consultations are free. Then, depending on how you use the app there are various packages available to choose from. Visit 'Packages' in the 'My Account' section of the app for more details. Yes, you can add your secretaries to help manage your account. Go to 'My Account' and then select 'My Secretaries'. Once invited, your secretary will receive an email invitation and will then be able to login and manage your virtual clinics via the doctor/secretary portal: https://medstars.jump360.me/
As a health practitioner, you receive payments from patients for your virtual consultations. When you set up an appointment for a patient you can select a fee. If you do this the patient pays this fee when they confirm your appointment request. The patient’s payment will arrive in your nominated bank account in 7 days minus any bank card transaction fees. To use this great facility all you need to do is enter which bank account you want to receive your funds into. Visit ‘My Account’ and then ‘Bank Details’. Add your details and then you’re ready to receive patient fees in advance via the app - no more chasing invoices for you!
There are two in-app ways to invite patients to join Medstars Connect. 1) You can invite your patients to download the app in advance, and send them an appointment request later (useful for when you want to front-load as much of your admin as possible but haven’t agreed an appointment date and time yet). Simply login to the app and select ‘Patient’ from the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen. After this, click the orange ‘Invite Patient’ button and follow the instructions from here. 2) Alternatively, you can invite your patients to download the app and accept an appointment request all in one go. Log in to the app and select ‘Appointment’ from the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen. After this, click the orange ‘+’ button and select ‘New Patient’ and follow the instructions from here.
You can do this in-app or via the web portal. If you are in-app, ensure you are on the appointments page and select the orange plus symbol. You can follow the instructions from here.
If a patient joins a scheduled video call and you either haven't started the call or are busy on another call, the patient will enter the waiting room (just like in your real clinic!). Patients will see a holding screen appear on their device, informing them that they’ve entered the waiting room. You’ll receive a notification to say the patient is there. Once you begin their scheduled video call, the patient automatically leaves the waiting room and enters the video appointment.
Pending appointments can easily be cancelled. The app will notify the patient. Confirmed appointments are ‘contracts’ which the patient has paid for. Changes will need to be discussed outside the app directly with your patient.
You can access the doctor/secretary portal on your desktop. Copy and paste: https://medstars.jump360.me/ into your browser and log in with the same email and password you use for the app. From here you can view your patient history, add new patients, view pending patient requests and schedule appointments. Accepted appointments will appear in a simple calendar view, making it easy to see your week ahead.
