I qualified as a doctor from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1993. I started my basic surgical training in Dublin and London and went on to specialise in Neurosurgery in Glasgow. I completed my specialist fellowship training in Neurovascular Surgery working with Professor Michael Morgan in Sydney, Australia, who is considered one of the world's leaders in surgery for brain AVM. In 2007, I was appointed as a consultant neurosurgeon at King's College Hospital and in 2010, I became a honorary consultant neurosurgeon at Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. My specialist interests include arteriovenous malformations of the brain and spinal cord, cavernoma, cerebral aneurysms, cerebral revascularisation, moyamoya disease, brain haemorrhage and general neurosurgery including tumours of the brain and spine. I am very active in medical education and research. I am a recognised trainer by the GMC and take pride in the knowledge that I am training the future generation of neurosurgeons. Since my appointment as a consultant, I have been involved with training and served as the departmental training lead at King's College Hospital from 2007 to 2017. I later went on to became the training program director in London until 2014 and was appointed to the neurosurgery specialist advisory committee of the joint committee surgical training. I am part of the multidisciplinary team at Guy's Hospital which supports the nationally commissioned neurofibromatosis service and Von Hippel-Lindau Disease clinic. My academic appointment is as a Visiting Clinical Senior Lecturer to the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London. I am published in numerous journals with my research focusing on the role of thrombosis in brain tumour growth, aneurysmal subbarachnoid haemorrhage and making surgery for brain and spinal cord vascular malformations safer and more effective. I have been privileged to speak and teach on neurosurgery around the world.
