I have been working as a Clinical Psychologist since 2007, where I have worked in various settings with children and adults who have presented with complex mental health difficulties and emotional distress. My aim is to provide therapeutic change for people who need support with difficult life events. I work with both children and adults and have a keen interest in Attachment Trauma across the lifespan. Emotion Focused Therapy is essentially about about emotional experiencing within the therapeutic space. I place great importance on the therapeutic relationship so that individuals can benefit from the therapeutic space. I hope my platform of psychotherapy supports individuals to develop a better understanding of their needs and difficulties and how they may have emerged, so that they can then find more adaptive ways of coping or living with their difficult experiences. I am a firm believer that the outcomes of any therapy are dependent on the client and therapist relationship and I build on strengthening this relationship to ensure the best outcomes for individuals. There is no one size fits all therapeutic approach and so I place importance on getting to understand with individuals, what led to their difficulties and goals for our work together. I have particular experience of working therapeutically with those who experienced trauma in their lives, such as sexual abuse. My aim is to create better outcomes to benefit the individuals I work with, so that they can continue with life. I am passionate about Attachment Theory and as a believer in life-long learning, I have studied extensively in the Dynamic Maturational Model of Attachment and Adaptation and have used attachment theory as the basis of all my work. I provide psychological therapy to individuals and support families, who experience difficulties such as depression, anxiety, and relational difficulties. I am trained in treatments designed to help children and adults who present with complex emotional, social and interpersonal difficulties. These include firstly, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), which really is skills based support. Secondly, Mentalisation Based Therapy (MBT), where I am accredited as a MBT practitioner by the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and finally Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). The latter is an accelerated form of psychodynamic therapy that focuses on emotions and resolving internal conflict by exploring deeper issues such as trauma. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of a wide range of problems, ranging from anxiety and depression, to more complex presentations such as attachment trauma and medically unexplained physical symptoms. I have particular expertise in relation to working with Children In Care, where over the last 20 years I have worked therapeutically with children in Residential, Fostering and Adoption Services. I now act as an external consultant and trainer to Fostering Agencies, Adoption Services and Residential Homes in all areas around children in care, with particular emphasis on children who present with complex trauma. My CV is available on request so please do email. With the demands of life in general, I also offer a platform of online therapy that enables you to undertake therapeutic support flexibly and creatively at your own convenience. This is something that I have valued over the last several years. I am fully insured, a member of my professional body (HCPC) and receive regular supervision for my practice. In addition to direct work with individuals, I also provide Consultation, Reflective Practice and Training to organisations on matters relating to mental health and wellbeing and staff support. Please get in touch if you are seeking support in any of the above areas.
