I undertook my undergraduate medical training at Liverpool University Medical School. My higher surgical training was performed in the NE Thames region of the London Deanery. I was awarded the FRCS in 2011, and gained my CCT in 2012. I spent my final year of training as an RSO at St Mark's Hospital, after which I was awarded the ALSGBI & ACPGBI Laparoscopic Colorectal Fellowship, which I undertook at Colchester General Hospital. Prior to higher surgical training I undertook a period of full time research. I investigated the role of biomaterials in the management of parastomal hernia and anal fistula. This culminated in an MD, awarded by the University of London, as well as the Colon & Rectal Disease Research Foundation Prize, by the ACPGBI. I was also granted a travelling fellowship by the Coloproctology Section of the Royal Society of Medicine. I have been invited to review articles for the Lancet, British Journal of Surgery, Colorectal Disease, Techniques in Coloproctology and The International Journal of Surgery. I have co-authored a chapter on anal fistula for the next edition of Rob & Smith's Operative Surgery: Surgery of the Colon, Rectum and Anus. I have subspecialty interests in abdominal wall reconstruction, inflammatory bowel disease and anal fistulas.
